(Richards &amp; Coppin, 2007). Tal como se\u00f1alan Norris <em>et al <\/em>(2008), en la bioingenier\u00eda del suelo se emplea material vegetal <em>vivo<\/em> para realizar funciones de ingenier\u00eda.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Aunque el uso de la vegetaci\u00f3n para la estabilizaci\u00f3n de taludes comenz\u00f3 en la antig\u00fcedad, la adopci\u00f3n y el desarrollo formal de esta tecnolog\u00eda han sido muy lentos, fundamentalmente debido a la dificultad a la que se enfrentan los ingenieros cuando intentan cuantificar los efectos beneficiosos de la vegetaci\u00f3n en la estabilidad.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Una buena recopilaci\u00f3n de ejemplos sobre t\u00e9cnicas antiguas de estabilizaci\u00f3n y control de erosi\u00f3n, fue publicada en hace algunos a\u00f1os por Geori &amp; Stathakapoulos (2006). Stathakapoulos (2006)<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-eb6a1ae elementor-section-full_width elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"eb6a1ae\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-d41b97b\" data-id=\"d41b97b\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c0eccdf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c0eccdf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>La dificultad asociada a la cuantificaci\u00f3n de los efectos de la vegetaci\u00f3n sobre la estabilidad de taludes, surge debido a la conjunci\u00f3n de tres aspectos:<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol><li>La complejidad de los fen\u00f3menos implicados en la interacci\u00f3n vegetaci\u00f3n-terreno.<\/li><li>La relativa escasez de datos experimentales sistem\u00e1ticos.<\/li><li>Las limitaciones de las herramientas de modelizaci\u00f3n.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Sin embargo, como se ver\u00e1 m\u00e1s adelante, actualmente se encuentra en desarrollo un importante esfuerzo en investigaci\u00f3n y desarrollo en bioingenier\u00eda aplicada a la Geotecnia, como parte de las acciones enfocadas en minimizar los efectos del cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-851da6f elementor-section-full_width elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"851da6f\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-6745f69\" data-id=\"6745f69\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7191712 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7191712\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Interacci\u00f3n terreno-vegetaci\u00f3n en problemas de estabilidad de taludes<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-c010a74 elementor-section-full_width elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"c010a74\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-73828c0\" data-id=\"73828c0\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8890d87 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8890d87\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Algo importante a tomar en cuenta en relaci\u00f3n con la aplicaci\u00f3n de soluciones de bioingenier\u00eda, es que los efectos beneficiosos de la vegetaci\u00f3n en la estabilidad de los taludes ante deslizamientos superficiales, se desarrollan gradualmente a lo largo de un per\u00edodo de tiempo, a trav\u00e9s de complejos mecanismos de interacci\u00f3n entre las ra\u00edces y el terreno. Estos mecanismos asociados a dichos efectos est\u00e1n bien identificados a nivel conceptual, tal como se\u00f1alan Wu <em>et al <\/em>(2015):<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>Las ra\u00edces de las plantas act\u00faan como refuerzo mec\u00e1nico, aportando una resistencia a la tracci\u00f3n que est\u00e1 ausente en la mayor\u00eda de los suelos y que, a medida que las mismas interceptan superficies potenciales de deslizamiento\/corte, se moviliza a trav\u00e9s de una mezcla de mecanismos de flexi\u00f3n y arrancamiento.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>Las ra\u00edces modifican la condici\u00f3n hidr\u00e1ulica de los suelos, afectando (y siendo afectadas por) el contenido de agua del suelo, aplicando succi\u00f3n para alimentar la evapotranspiraci\u00f3n, y creando condiciones parcialmente saturadas.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Adicionalmente, es necesario considerar la geometr\u00eda y la disposici\u00f3n de las ra\u00edces, ya que las ra\u00edces m\u00e1s profundas pueden actuar como anclajes si atraviesan la superficie potencial de falla, y como elementos que aportan estabilidad mediante la resistencia en la interfaz suelo-ra\u00edces en el caso de ra\u00edces laterales, pseudo-paralelas a la superficie de deslizamiento y ancladas a la parte del suelo situada aguas arriba de la grieta de tracci\u00f3n. Otra dificultad asociada a la modelizaci\u00f3n de la interacci\u00f3n suelo-ra\u00edz, es la complejidad geom\u00e9trica y variabilidad de las arquitecturas de las ra\u00edces. Dicha variabilidad complica seriamente los enfoques puramente emp\u00edricos, basados en la recopilaci\u00f3n experimental de datos sistem\u00e1ticos y en la identificaci\u00f3n de los factores relevantes.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Desde el punto de vista pr\u00e1ctico, existen adaptaciones de algunos procedimientos tradicionales empleados para analizar la estabilidad de taludes, a fin de considerar el efecto beneficioso de las ra\u00edces (ver, por ejemplo, Reubens <em>et al<\/em>, 2007; Wu <em>et al<\/em>, 2015). Adicionalmente, pueden emplearse m\u00e9todos m\u00e1s complejos, basados en elementos finitos, que permiten analizar el problema considerando variaciones en las condiciones hidr\u00e1ulicas (ver, por ejemplo, Liang <em>et al<\/em>, 2015).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section el hecho de que el calentamiento global inducido por el hombre ha causado profundas alteraciones en los ecosistemas naturales y humanos.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>En ese contexto, y a fin de minimizar dichas alteraciones, la simulaci\u00f3n computacional se considera actualmente clave para acelerar la investigaci\u00f3n sobre la interacci\u00f3n de las ra\u00edces y el suelo, ya que permite generalizar los hallazgos de la investigaci\u00f3n emp\u00edrica a trav\u00e9s de modelos virtuales en los que se puedan modificar, de forma sistem\u00e1tica y controlada, las numerosas variables que est\u00e1n presentes en el campo (Stubbs <em>et al<\/em>, 2019).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Sin embargo, es importante destacar que, a fin de validar los modelos virtuales, es necesario contrastarlos con resultados de experimentos f\u00edsicos. En ese sentido, a la fecha se han desarrollado algunas investigaciones en laboratorio, incluyendo el empleo de la centr\u00edfuga (Liang <em>et al<\/em>, 2020; Sonnenberg <em>et\u00a0al<\/em>, 2012; Zhang <em>et\u00a0al<\/em>, 2020), la realizaci\u00f3n de modelos 1-g (Zhang <em>et\u00a0al<\/em>, 2020), y el an\u00e1lisis del comportamiento hidromec\u00e1nico del suelo enraizado en condiciones parcialmente saturadas (Fraccica <em>et al<\/em>, 2022).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>En general, estas investigaciones reportan el efecto beneficioso de las ra\u00edces en la estabilidad de taludes, mediante el aporte de resistencia adicional al terreno.
