mencionamos al agua. Pero, \u00bfqu\u00e9 es el agua? \u00bfcu\u00e1les son sus propiedades?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>El agua es, ante todo, un <em>compuesto qu\u00edmico<\/em>, el cual tiene una estructura at\u00f3mica tal, que los \u00e1tomos de hidr\u00f3geno forman un \u00e1ngulo aproximado de 105\u00b0 entre las rectas que unen sus centros con el \u00e1tomo de ox\u00edgeno, lo cual le confiere la propiedad de <em>bipolaridad<\/em>. Para que un s\u00f3lido contenga agua debe ser necesariamente <em>poroso<\/em>, es decir, que debe contener espacios que puedan ser ocupados por agua.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>La porosidad se define usualmente como la relaci\u00f3n entre los espacios \u201cvac\u00edos\u201d (o sea, no s\u00f3lidos) y el volumen total. En el caso de la roca vacuolar (en la cual cada poro es independiente de otro), si \u00e9sta contiene alg\u00fan fluido, dicho fluido debe haberse formado al mismo tiempo que la roca. Para el caso de suelos granulares, los poros est\u00e1n interconectados, y por ende se deduce que se formaron al mismo tiempo que la fase s\u00f3lida. La roca fracturada, por su parte, puede mostrar fracturas interconectadas entre s\u00ed, o bien poros que no est\u00e1n conectados, dado que se formaron posteriormente a la roca. Finalmente, las arcillas francas no poseen poros propiamente dichos, aun cuando se porosidad se mide por la cantidad de agua que absorbe por unidad de volumen. En la Figura 3 se presentan los principales efectos del agua como detonante de una falla en un talud.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section factor:<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol><li>En relaci\u00f3n al <em>aumento del peso del suelo<\/em>, al ser \u00e9ste un medio poroso, el mismo puede eventualmente saturarse (debido a la acci\u00f3n de lluvias muy intensas, por ejemplo, o por infiltraci\u00f3n de agua asociada a efectos antr\u00f3picos), y as\u00ed aumentar considerablemente el peso unitario del mismo, lo que favorece el movimiento de la masa del terreno.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"2\"><li>La <em>disminuci\u00f3n de la resistencia por agua adsorbida<\/em> es particularmente importante para el caso de materiales arcillosos, en los cuales el agua es absorbida f\u00e1cilmente, adhiri\u00e9ndose a los bordes y las caras de las part\u00edculas s\u00f3lidas, generando as\u00ed una disminuci\u00f3n de la resistencia al corte entre las mismas.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"3\"><li>En ciertos materiales (como por ejemplo algunos suelos residuales, o suelos potencialmente colapsables), el flujo de agua a trav\u00e9s de los poros del suelo genera la <em>disoluci\u00f3n<\/em> de las part\u00edculas minerales de menor tama\u00f1o, que fungen como uniones entre las de mayor tama\u00f1o, lo cual ocasiona el colapso de la estructura de suelo.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"4\"><li>La <em>erosi\u00f3n interna<\/em>, por su parte, est\u00e1 asociada al flujo de agua entre los poros del terreno, que puede generar cavernas, induciendo as\u00ed la falla del talud.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"5\"><li>La saturaci\u00f3n del terreno genera que los poros se llenen de agua, y si por alguna raz\u00f3n externa se genera un <em>incremento de la<\/em> <em>presi\u00f3n de poros<\/em> (como puede ocurrir debido a fuertes lluvias, o a infiltraci\u00f3n de agua proveniente de procesos antr\u00f3picos), la resistencia al corte del terreno disminuye, seg\u00fan la conocida Ley de Esfuerzos Efectivos desarrollada por Terzaghi.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Por supuesto, todos los suelos se ven afectados por estos procesos. Sin embargo, la naturaleza de los materiales afectar\u00e1 la <em>rapidez<\/em> con la que ocurren estos fen\u00f3menos.
