Esto ocurre porque, al producirse la sedimentaci\u00f3n en un \u00e1rea extensa, no se produce una compresi\u00f3n horizontal apreciable. Pues bien, este caso es plausible \u00fanicamente en un muro de elevada rigidez, que no rote ni se deforme de manera significativa, condici\u00f3n para la no ocurrir\u00edan deformaciones laterales. En este caso, la condici\u00f3n de esfuerzos ser\u00eda muy similar a la del terreno natural, y por ende tendr\u00edamos <em>K <\/em>\u2248 <em>K<sub>o<\/sub><\/em> (Coduto, 2001).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Desde el punto de vista pr\u00e1ctico, el dise\u00f1ar un muro bajo estas condiciones resulta poco frecuente. presencia de part\u00edculas de arcilla (de tama\u00f1o inferior a 2 \u03bcm) ejerce una notable influencia en el comportamiento del terreno.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>As\u00ed las cosas, \u00bfqu\u00e9 metodolog\u00edas emplear para estimar el coeficiente <em>K<sub>o<\/sub><\/em> de, digamos, una arena arcillosa (SC), o de un limo (ML)? \u00bfY para una arcilla limosa (CL-ML)?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Considerando numerosas investigaciones desarrolladas en los \u00faltimos 30 a\u00f1os (Kenney, 1977; Lupini <em>et al<\/em>, 1981; Skempton, 1985; Kumar &amp; Wood, 1999; Vallejo, 2001; Mitchell &amp; Soga, 2005; Biscontin <em>et al<\/em>, 2007, entre otros), la respuesta depende del contenido de coloides (es decir, del contenido de las peque\u00f1as part\u00edculas de arcilla). B\u00e1sicamente, desde un punto de vista pr\u00e1ctico, el SUCS debe ser complementado con una estimaci\u00f3n precisa (a trav\u00e9s de un ensayo de hidrometr\u00eda) del contenido de coloides de la muestra de suelo.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>As\u00ed, si este contenido es mayor a 20%-25%, el suelo presentar\u00e1 un comportamiento totalmente dominado por la fracci\u00f3n arcillosa, por lo que deber\u00edan emplearse las expresiones mostradas en la secci\u00f3n 4 de este post para estimar <em>K<sub>o<\/sub><\/em>.
